Topics

1) How technology is used to spread misinformation
2) How AI will impact society/certain careers
One is how AI benefits society and The Impact of Technology on Privacy and Cybersecurity.
General cyber security and personal privacy. Zero trust security model is currently getting popular for businesses to keep their network's secure. For privacy I think internet safety should be taught early on like how I learned.
Protecting artists from generative AI replacements. It is important for detection of AI generated work, and regulatory protections of labor groups and union protections like from the writers strikes.
On the topic of internet security and privacy I think education is the biggest and safest approach which does not require government regulations (difficult to pass and can be restrictive/have unforeseen consequences).
Basic strategies include:
Not sharing personal/identifiable information
Keep social media accounts private wherever possible
Only connect/friend people you know personally.
Learn about your digital footprint (see what comes up when you google/person search yourself)
For teens, warn about sexting and dangers of it.
Learn about more advanced privacy/security strategies like VPNs and browsers which do not track/store your data.

Overall spreading awareness is the most effective way to make an impact quickly.
How many companies are integrating AI into their services, and its impact on consumers.
Innovations in healthcare from technology, and its impact on society
There were many topics discussed from assignment one.
When we talk about topics like the impact of social media in society, I believe legislation would have the greatest effect. Making higher age restrictions is one thing that can be done. In class we discussed how it is unsafe for younger people to use social media, and increasing age requirements would prevent use among minors. I believe education is also important as showing insight into the negative aspects of social media can make people more aware of issues and can make people take online safety more seriously. These are some solutions.
1. Controversy of AI assistance in artistic mediums
2. Moderation on LLMs
Topic: AI regulation in artistic fields (potential theft)
Possible solution: require 'AI-generated' as a tag like on other platforms such as tiktok/instagram and provide credit to the material sources it was trained on
1) Dissent over COPPA and other similar regulations: prioritizing social outreach programs, regulation regarding extremist groups, targeted harassment, etc. over regulations that will either have negligible outcomes or result in blanket bans against children on the internet.

2) Popularization of previously fringe opinions: further research into political extremism and how social media facilitates this.
As a follow up to today's class, and your suggestion that we separate AI and misinformation:

Highlighted quote: "Regulation, he added, is largely non-existent"
"How technology is used to spread misinformation & The impact technology has on society
Technology:
- Bot vs. Human à ensure a human is behind the screen
- Information verification against reliable sites/sources
- Negative comments, bullies à flag comments with negative association to it
- Parental controls à allows parents to monitor/track minors account
Legislation:
- Age verification
- Identity Verification
- Parental validation i.e. ensure Parent Contact is actually the parent of the child
- Understand how algorithms work on certain apps à allows parents/guardians to know what will be shown/available for the kids to view on the app
Education:
- Age verification, i.e. ensuring person is old enough to be posting information
- Education verification, i.e. verify person had the educational background to post information about desired topic "
Topic 1: Human Skills in AI’s Uptake Era

Despite the rise of AI, human intervention remains crucial in customer experience (CX) interactions. The focus is on how automation can complement human capabilities and the importance of reskilling and upskilling initiatives to close the skills gap in the workforce.
Social Media Impact on Lives:
Technology:
Clearer Algorithms: Make social media algorithms transparent so users know how content is chosen. This helps break echo-chambers and promotes diverse views.
Digital Well-being Tools: Create features helping users manage screen time, set limits, and get notifications for healthier online/offline balance.
Legislation:
Privacy Rules: Strengthen laws to protect user data and limit how much social media platforms can collect and share without clear consent.
Anti-Cyberbullying Laws: Enforce strict laws against cyberbullying and hate speech for a safer online space.
Education:
Digital Literacy in Schools: Teach students to evaluate online information critically, spot misinformation, and understand social media's impact on mental health.
Online Respect Campaigns: Run campaigns promoting positive online behavior, fostering a culture of respect and empathy.
Negative Effects of AI on Society:
Technology:
Ethical AI: Develop AI with ethical guidelines, focusing on fairness, transparency, and accountability.
Bias Detection: Create tools to find and fix biases in AI, preventing unfair outcomes.
Legislation:
AI Regulations: Enact rules governing AI development, addressing bias, discrimination, and ethical use.
Job Safeguards: Implement policies to handle job displacement from AI, including reskilling programs and safety nets.
Education:
AI Literacy: Include AI understanding in education to empower people with knowledge about AI's capabilities and limits.
Continuous Learning: Encourage ongoing education for adapting to the changing job market influenced by AI.
One thing I want to hone in on especially is my topic on misinformation. I think implementing a literacy course is the most important, but not just a one-and-done thing but something that's concurrent and part of the "core" system. I think that technology and digital literacy is just as valuable as mathematics, english, general science, etc. Combatting misinformation is definitely something that should be tackled early on before people form strong opinions and biases, and it should be seen as an extension of "critical thinking."
Addressing the environmental impact of electronic waste generated by the rapid turnover of technology (e-waste)
An approach I think would work is:
-Having companies start a recycling program/creating more refurbished devices. This would also accompany an incentive for people to recycle their old devices/electronic waste (similar to how you get 5 or 10 cents back from recycling empty cans and bottles)
Topic #1 - Digital Privacy in the Age of Big Data

Topic #2 - Automation and the Future of Work.
Some approaches to resolve my topic issue of Digital Privacy in Big Data would be :
Encourage businesses to collect only necessary data and to design products with privacy in mind. Make privacy policies clearer and give people more control over their data.

Some approaches for Automation and the future of work :
Invest in education and training programs to help people learn the skills needed for future jobs. Encourage lifelong learning to adapt to changing job needs. Provide support for people who lose their jobs to automation, like unemployment benefits and job placement services. Explore new ideas like universal basic income to help everyone stay financially secure.
he use of emerging technology as a means to defraud the elderly and how it can be prevented.
The use of artificial intelligence in law enforcement.
1. Analysis of transportation access in the Tri-State area, specifically efficiency in highway traffic, MTA/Metro North Train, and bus lines
2. Greener Energy initiatives, specifically towards hydro and nuclear energy sources, that would benefit from robust programs that optimize towards maximum output and minimum impact towards structural integrity
3. Combating misinformation and improper crediting of sources in the digital sphere
